The world's most popular project management methodology.
A powerful project management method, PRINCE2 helps avoid project failure, reduce waste, increase productivity, boost efficiency, and complements other globally recognized approaches such as PMI and IPMA.
This case study describes how Konica Minolta adapted PRINCE2® to improve its project management capabilities and help develop a project portfolio management function. The organization was aware that it needed to improve its project portfolio management in order to enable business change and so that they could answer the questions: ‘How many projects do we have?’ and ‘What do they cost?’
The principles of PRINCE2 are widely used at the British Council with core templates and guidance available on the corporate intranet from the Programme Support Office, the British Council’s Centre of Excellence. PRINCE2 helps the team identify the reasonable deliverables of the project.
German systems development business Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH describes how PRINCE2® helped them deliver a project to develop hardware and software for rail ticket vending machines for rail company Bayerische Oberlandbahn.
PRINCE2® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a practical, process-based methodology which lays out step-by-step guidance for project management, and defines clear processes, steps and templates. It covers complementary topics such as portfolio, programme, project, and service management.
The PRINCE2® project management framework is truly generic and can be wrapped around any delivery approach. It has been built from widely accepted best practices and can be applied to any project regardless of organisation, type or culture.
PRINCE2 can be applied to any type of project within any industry sector. The method is widely recognized and understood and so provides a common vocabulary for all those involved in a project, which helps effective communication.
The method also provides for the explicit recognition of project responsibilities so that participants understand each other's roles and needs. There is a defined structure for accountability, delegation, authority and communication.

The PRINCE2 Intro is aiming to be able to act as an informed member of a project management team using the PRINCE2 methodology within a project environment supporting PRINCE2. To this end they need to show they understand the principles and terminology of the method, specifically, candidates must be able to:
Describe the purpose and major content of all roles, the seven principles, the seven themes and the seven processes. State which management products are input to, and output from the seven processes. State the main purpose, and key contents, of the major management products.State the relationships between processes, deliverables, roles and the management dimensions of a project.
PRINCE2® Intro is first step to achieve PRINCE2R Foundation certificate. PRINCE2 Intro diploma is a certificate issued by an ATO (Accredited Training Organization) that testifies that the candidates has successfully completed a PRINCE2 Overview course.
The PRINCE2 overview course takes delegates through a project lifecycle using the method, and discusses how to ensure a practical approach is taken when applying the method.
Delegates are introduced to the world of projects and project management and to the overall structure of the PRINCE2 method. The benefits of adopting a formal project management method will also be outlined.
PRINCE2 operates with a universal set of principles that can be applied to every project. These seven principles provide the framework of good practice upon which PRINCE2 is based.
The seven PRINCE2 themes are aspects of the project that must be continually addressed and linked together in order for the project to be delivered effectively.
The seven PRINCE2 processes define the activities that are required to direct, manage and deliver the project successfully. The following processes run from pre-project, through initiation and delivery, up to and including project closure.
