Who should attend?

- Internal auditors

- Those who want to become third party auditors for ISO/IEC 19770

Organization Benefits

Software license audits may be business-as-usual for software vendors – but for the companies responding to those audits they are costly in terms of both time and money. Implementing & Compliance IT Assessment processes – such as the ISO 19770 standard for IT Asset Management – can help you avoid this pain. Even better, becoming certified to follow these processes can reduce your chances of receiving audit requests from vendors.

Course Content - What will I learn in the training?

ISO/IEC 19770 is an international standard about IT Asset Management (ITAM), which is a business practice that involves managing and optimizing the purchase, deployment, maintenance, utilization, and disposal of software applications within an organization.

The course consists of three parts.

ISO/IEC 19770-1 is a process framework to enable an organization to prove that it is performing software asset management to a standard sufficient to satisfy corporate governance requirements and ensure effective support for IT service management overall.

ISO/IEC 19770-2 provides a software asset management (SAM) data standard for software identification tags. Software ID tags provide authoritative identifying information for installed software or other licensable item (such as fonts, or copyrighted papers).

ISO/IEC 19770-3 will provide a software asset management (SAM) data standard for software licensing entitlement tags. Software entitlement tags are computer files that provide authoritative identifying information about software licensing rights.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

Describe the purpose of an ITAM | Plan & conduct an ISO/IEC 19770 audit | Manage audit communication and interviews | Report and follow up on an ITAM ISO/IEC 19770 audit.

Conduct opening, closing, and follow-up audit meetings | Understand the key fundamentals and processes of an ITAM | Understand and apply the requirements ISO/IEC 19770 in the context of an audit.

  What is IT Asset Management?

IT Asset Management (ITAM) is a set of business practices that incorporates IT assets across the business units within the organization. IT Asset Management joins the financial, inventory and contractual responsibilities to manage the overall life cycle including tactical and strategic decision making.

Across every organization type and size, ITAM delivers service to everyone in the organization to facilitate current and future business operations. The mission of the IT Asset Manager is to maximize benefits while minimizing risks from IT assets in their organization.

Why IT Asset Certification is Necessary?

An IT Asset Management program allows maximum benefit from IT assets, with the lowest cost, while reducing financial and compliance risks. The ITAM repository is the collection of data about the financial, inventory and contractual aspects of IT assets for analysis and reporting over time.

Without a functional ITAM program, the accounting for assets is often restricted to a one-time cost approach, virtually eliminating managing assets based on Return on Investment (ROI) or Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and entirely eliminating any lifecycle analysis.

ITAM delivers long term value, back up by Cart’s experience that “...our team has shown management how ITAM can have a positive impact on business,” and “performs monthly asset audits at a 95% accuracy rate surpassing [the current] Service Level Agreement (SLA).”

What Assets Benefit from the Discipline of ITAM?

Balancing risk and value against the cost of management, an ITAM program includes different types of IT assets at varying levels of management. The following list identifies commonly managed IT assets in categories:

- Mobile (laptops, smart phones, tablets/pads)

- Software (applications, operating systems, databases)

- Hardware (physical components such as desktop computers, monitors, servers)
